The Great Tattoo Artists

By Christien Tinsley

There are hundreds of great tattoo artists in the world that can create magnificent works of art that are vibrant with a life of their own. Some are so talented that they can create tattoos that almost seem to come to life right before your eyes. These are the kinds of in-demand tattoo artists tattoo fans line up for to have them create tattoos on their bodies that stand out from the rest. Although there are many artists that are considered pure genius behind the tattoo gun, some are better known than others. Here are the top ten artists that are the best at what they do, and it shows.

Paul Booth - Considered an artist that brings scene of strife and violence to life on skin, Paul Booth is the epitome of everything evil about tattoos (or that's his reputation, at any rate). He is known in the industry for his lifelike renditions and has spent the past 20 years perfecting his craft. He has become well known among the skin art crowd and has even won awards worldwide. He has been the cover story of top magazines and has made television appearances on MSNBC, DISCOVERY, MTV, CNN, A&E, TLC and other channels.

Aaron Cain - This mastermind of the tattooing industry has been bringing works of art to life since 1991. His biomechanical style is unlike any other and he has gained much of his inspiration from other top tattoo artists in the field. Cain is well known for his hard edges and thick lines that are amid the cluster of his biomechanical style. He is not only an artists but he also produces an entire line of custom tattooing equipment.

Ryan Dearringer - Sacred Ink is where this next top-rated tattoo artist prevails. His awesome tattoos are among the most popular in Indianapolis as he blends all types of styles and schools of design into his work. From portraits, new school tattoos, old school tattoos, graffiti styles and more, he has made it a core belief that what makes for a truly fine tattoo artist is being an artist first, and a tattooist second.

Nick Baxter - This artist is recognized for his large-scale color work and for constantly pushing the boundaries of tattoo art to new heights and possibilities. He is big on visual effects and is always looking for more ways to bring life to the tattoo and break through any limitations of the craft that stand in his way.

Mike DeVries - This tattoo artist is considered a new star in the industry and has been able to stand his ground in one of the most highly competitive markets in the world. Known as one of the finest color masters in the country, he is so creative with ultra realistic color that the tattoos that he creates carry a level of realism not seen as much elsewhere. He is a big fan of animals, portraits and pin up art, and among his favorite pieces you will find many things that are stark and realistic.

Carson Hill - Another biomechanical master in the field he is pushing to further understand dimensional reality and how light and shadow plays with all things in the realm of the tattoo. He believes that how far the depth of a tattoo can go is entirely in the eyes of the one who creates it.

Bob Tyrell - Although Bob Tyrell began working as a tattooist at 34 he has become one of the best black and gray tattoo artists of his time. If you seek a tattoo that is not only good but so realistic that it will blow your mind, then Bob Tyrell is your man. His images are so real looking that they seem to move and breathe, jumping off the skin to chat (or fight) with you.

Brandon Bond - Brandon Bond is among the most award-winning and renowned tattoo artists in the entire world. He is the owner of the famous All or Nothing Tattoo parlor in Atlanta. He is also the owner of a publishing company named Strangehold that sells books, movies, clothing, tattoo products, artwork and more. Even after 15 years of tattooing he remains booked consistently with more clientele than he can ask for. He recently opened another studio, Anti Art Elite, in Georgia.

Jesse Nesse - Jesse Nesse specializes in cover-up work and is known around the globe for his color tattoos. He has become the top tattoo artist in Nebraska and is at the top of his field internationally, as well. He opened Nuclear Ink in 1999 in South Omaha and in 2000 the shop relocated to its present spot near Midtown.

Guy Aitchison - At the peak of the biomechanical field, Atchison has created many of the best, biggest, color biomech skin art creations ever seen. He not only is a tattoo artist, but a respected painter as well. He has produced several works of art that have been seen in leading tattoo and art magazines.
